The stigma in Indonesian society (especially parents) assumes that civil servants have a higher status than other jobs. Most parents in Indonesia will definitely prioritize civil servants for their children over other informal jobs. But do their children also want to become civil servants? In a family with both civil servant parents, Tutik (F77) who is a retired teacher (civil servant), has 2 children with one civil servant, Iwan (M42) and one non-civil servant, Ika (F45). Iwan himself works at the regent's office (as a civil servant) following in the footsteps of his parents. Meanwhile, Ika, chose not to follow in the footsteps of her parents and chose to become a private employee. With two different career views, this family still respects each other. Because basically all jobs have the same status and dignity. These jobs have their respective portions in life.
