About Miranda Firmston

Miranda Firmston is an interdisciplinary media artist based in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded lands of the Coast Salish peoples. Working across sound, new media, and performance, they build interactive instruments and responsive systems that explore touch, gesture, and bodily presence in technologically mediated environments. Rooted in the ethos of poetic computation, their practice approaches digital systems as sites for expressive experimentation, focusing on instability, fragmentation, and dis/embodied meaning. Miranda maintains an experimental sound practice parallel to their media and performance work, releasing solo works under the name Pet. Grounded in the manipulation of found sounds and field recordings, their sound work typically stands alone as installation, composition, or recorded piece, and occasionally as compositions for visual media. Miranda is currently completing a BMA in New Media + Sound Art at Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
